Depersonalization (Amelia Brennan)
I am graduating from Lancaster University with a BA Hons in Film Studies. What drove me to study this degree was a passion for Horror and Thriller media, these themes directly influenced my film 'Depersonalization' which is strongly inspired by the works of Maya Deren and David Lynch. My portfolio of work often explores horror and thriller genres of which is reflective in my practical film based work. However, I am also passionate about the theoretical and analytical studies of these genres. I aim to explore these themes further in my MA Media and cultural studies degree beginning later this year.
Depersonalization (2020) follows the experience of a characters depersonalization disorder. The film takes us through the different stages of this experience and displays how the character physically and emotionally responds to the event.
Filmmaler's statement: It is with my personal experiences with Depersonalization which has driven me to make this piece. My film strives to raise awareness for depersonalization as a mental disorder while also placing the viewer in the position of experiencing discomfort which is associated with this disorder. It is due to my depth of knowledge with surrealist and horror cinema I was able to achieve this effect. I believe that this depth of knowledge could be utilised to further explore the uses of surrealist and horror cinema within other forms of media.
