Kingdom in the sky (Tania Mergea)

Kingdom in the Sky holds the name of a 1969 Romanian folklore based film about initiation, life and death. The 2020 film tells a similar story, of a young girl prepared for a journey of life, discovery and transcendental values. Taking footage filmed around three countries, the film is concerned with movement, film materiality, spirituality and nationality.

Kingdom in the Sky (Tania Mergea)

I'm Tania! My interests range from making films to music and animation, with my main inspiration being transcendental cinema and directors such as Andrei Tarkovsky and Alejandro Jodorowsky, art from The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors and Jungian psychology.

I have made different projects along the years, from horror films to documentary and short experimental films, and this project was made with the intention of exploring transcendentalism through a Romanian cultural lens.
